The scuptor has omitted to show the belts, apron and sword, which appears on other scenes. Small armour fittings are also not carved, and the scalloped short sleeves of mail have been mistakenly added below the shoulder plates...These figures demonstrate the mixture of empirical observation, stylizationconfusion and lassitude which went into the composition of the frieze" (Bishop & Coulston 1993: Plate V).
