Biography: Bruce Armstrong

Bruce Armstrong still lives and works in Melbourne, the city of his birth. In this photograph, Armstrong is the person behind the sculpture, without a hat.

In 1983, Armstrong graduated from the Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology, Melbourne. In that same year, he also won an award for being the most outstanding emerging artist in Victoria.

Armstrong's work has benefited from commissions funded by the Bardas family. The Bardas family actively promote the work of young Australian sculptors. To facilitate the purchase of this work, the Bardas family made a donation to the Foundation of the National Gallery of Australia.

At this stage, Armstrong chooses to work almost exclusively in wood.
